Had the pleasure of visiting a beautifully restored legacy of our city – the iconic GEM Cinema on MI Road with Mr. Sudhir Kasliwal himself, followed by a lovely afternoon with him over coffee and cookies with an endless conversation about the good old days, cameras, films, photography, photographers, and so on…
GEM flaunts a classic Art Deco style of building that has been brought back to its spectacular original state, when it was first launched in 1964. As a result, GEM is currently looking more endearing than it ever has before.
After going into hibernation during the era of large-format analogue cinema and then being temporarily affected by the pandemic, GEM has reemerged as a unique space that is ready to host exhibitions, theatre, musicals, and even revisiting and learning the art of analogue filmmaking. This is made possible by the fact that the original equipment and projectors are in perfect working condition, thanks to GEM’s original crew and Mr. Kasliwal, who kept them for over a decade and a half.
Looking forward to experiencing everything that this stunning location has to offer
