It is amazing to see how time changes you.
My city then, was Jaipur and I was one of the thousands kite notorious kids around (late seventies and early eighties) who would do just about anything to go out there and fly them at any time of the day till it was cold and dark and one could barely see a thing.
I would keep trying to get them up there even when there wasn’t any breeze, because Ratan our press wala had told me once, that if you can reach it to that water tank’s height (the one with pink and white bands, mushroom shaped one in Jawahar Nagar, Jaipur) there is breeze and then your kite will sail on its own – trust me he was so right!
Somethings never change, like my undying love for kites, maybe because it is all about being free, competition to soar higher than all out there, sometimes high and sometimes low, controlled aggression immediately followed by going with the flow, falling down and getting torn a bit, some god sent angel picks and patches it up, and makes it fly again
Being in this addictive city of Jaipur during this time of the year brought back all the fond memories and I decided to fulfil my dream of getting ALL the kites in the market, home – HERE THEY ARE!!
